Include an Eye Exam for Back to School!
I was in 5th grade when slipping grades on tests and an alert form the teacher about my squinting sent me to get my first pair of glasses. It’s funny, I don’t remember when I could see well without glasses and I also can’t remember experiencing any slow loss of vision. I guess it sneaks up on you! All the more reason to get those eyes examined before returning to school.
When children have undetected vision problems, school can be a struggle. Signs that your child may be experiencing vision difficulties in the classroom include:
* Trouble finishing written assignments
* Losing their place when reading
* Holding reading material closer than normal
* Having a short attention span when doing close work
* Skipping words when reading
* Turning or tilting their head to use one eye only
* Rubbing their eyes
* Frequently complaining of headaches
* Consistently performing below potential
